Bankruptcy. Over a Dozen lawsuits. No master bath for 8 months.

We thought we were buying a bathroom remodel. Instead we bought ourselves the worst consumer nightmare of our lives.

This is about Kitchen and Bath Decor, aka Kitchen and Bath remodeling, Custom kitchens and Closets at 1707 Durham, Houston, TX just south of I-10 at 832-620-1700. You can contact me at: rdpchipguy@gmail.com.

Some of you have sent me the Judge Alex video... I am aware of and appreciate that but wanted to keep this about our own experience.

If you have had a similar experience with these folks, I have a Google Group started so let me know if you want on that. It has over two dozen people making similar claims to ours.
I can also provide the name of the Harris County Deputy Sheriff we are working with to see if a criminal case is warranted.
It began October 7, 2023 when we went to Kitchen & Bath Decor (1707 Durham Drive, Houston, Texas, 77007) looking to remodel our bathroom.

How our Bathroom looked on Feb 1, 2024, April 15 2024 and on July 30 2024.
No work has been done on our bathroom by KBD since Feb 1 2024.

Timeline of our nightmare

7 October 2023 We went to their showroom. They gave an impressive presentation and had a very nice showroom. Jonathan Neil (Director of Operations) indicated he would coordinate and that he also worked as a Cooking Instructor/Manager at Williams-Sonoma. Then they pressured us into signing a contract that night and we agreed. We agreed to pay in full which we obviously regret now.
23 December 2023 Jonathan indicates "Materials have started arriving" (the ones we never got seven months later).
4 January 2024 We messaged Jonathan Neil that demolition could begin. Was originally set for Jan 22 then changed to Jan 31.
1 Feb 2024 Demolition Complete. They actually did a good job here. However we realized we needed to relocate the tub drain.
Mid Feb 2024 KBD sent two plumbers, Juan and Maricio, to bid. We saw Mauricio's bid, which had no plumbing license or company. We never saw Juan's bid.
23 Feb 2024 Heather proposes we use our own plumber
1 Mar 2024 After not responding to us for a nearly a week, Jonathan gives approval to use our own plumber after "going back and forth" with Juan. It took nearly a month for this to happen for a bid likely similar to Mauricio's bid.
Mid Mar 2024 Their subcontractor refused to mark where the plumber needs to put the tub drain and supply, so we ask for the tub.
28 Mar 2024 Jonathan Neil promises to deliver tub and tile. He claims nobody was in office building tho there was a Jeep in parking lot. We never got the tile or the meeting. Just a tub.
5 April 2024 Tub delivered. I (Roger) arranged the plumber and did initial proposed measurements myself which the plumber updated.
Around 15 April 2024 Roger posts a Google review. "Kitchen and Bath Decor Owner" (presume Cheleste Haddad) claims plumbing delay was "in the customer's control" despite 1) We didn't get permission to use our own plumber until 1 Mar and we didn't get the tub until 5 April 2024.
They also claim the tub gated the rest of the project while we contend they could have easily delivered the other materials and worked on framing the shower and sheetrock repairs during this time.
22 April 2024 Tub supply/drain plumbing completed by our own plumber. Messaged Valentino (who we presume had taken over for Jonathan).
11 May 2024 Heather (my wife) files her google review. Owner sends a snarky reply about how she wants to "work amicalbly" (after leaving us without a bathroom for over 3 months) and claims all material will be delivered by May 18 (the same materials their Bankruptcy Schedule A says they didn't actually have). She also states plumbing was "always the responsibility of the customer", but then what were Juan and Jonathan Neil "going back and forth" about for nearly a month?
Late June 2024Valentino says materials will be delivered 29 June then backs out. No date provided since. We ask for pictures and part numbers and quantities which were never sent. So we don't even know if they ordered the right materials (assuming they ever ordered them).
16 July 2024 Still no tile or any other materials five and a half months since demolition.
18 July 2024 KBD files Chapter 11 Case 24-33277.
1 August 2024 Bankruptcy Statement of Financial Affairs shows no materials in inventory other than some granite slabs.
13 August 2024We got the Bankruptcy paperwork.
28 August 2024First part of meeting with creditors held. It lasted 3.5 hours and was continued because of some necessary paperwork updates until Mid-September.
13 September 2024We hire a new contractor. David did an amazing job.
14 September 2024Celeste calls us wanting a resolution. But they are still in mid-bankruptcy. We said we would negotiate through their attorney. No response to that. In fairness, her attorneys may have missed or not given her notice that we contacted them.
18 September 2024Second meeting of creditors. No updated Asset statements or recovery plan.
11 October 2024Third meeting of Creditors. Still no updated Asset Statements or recovery plan. The trustee said if they're not filed by October 16 he would move for dismissal.
11 October 2024New contractor finished bathroom in about a month.
15 October 2024Celeste did contact asking for path forward. We formally requested a refund at that point.
16 October 2024Recovery plan filed. It assumed a $10000 income from a "Pandora Tobacco" which was not listed as an assett on Schedule A. I emailed the trustees trying to get more information on that but never heard back.
2 April 2025Almost 18 months since we contracted with them. The bankruptcy is still pending. We are out about $25K.

Lawsuits

I am not an attorney and this is not legal advice or legal analysis. Lawsuits are not proof.

If you go to
Harris County District clerk, get a free account and search for Hadad Design, you will find a page like this:

I was planning to review some of these lawsuits but with the bankruptcy that is pretty much moot.
