The Dell DM5500 is a fully integrated backup solution for mid-range backup needs. It is built on a PowerEdge R740xd2 2U chassis offering up to 5.2 PB of logical capacity, up to 96 TB of internal usable storage (expandable up to 256 TB with external enclosures), and a throughput of up to 14 TB/hr.

The components I worked on include:

• The ESXi disk drive daemon which connects between the PERC layer and the VM layer.
• The Linux Kernel drivers and user-level software which manage the disks, RAID, HBA card and enclosures.
• The interfaces to subsystems maintained by other teams (such as iDRAC or PowerEdge daemons).
• The interfaces to SES enclosures (CDES-2 and CDES-3).

I also handled issues at the Hypervisor level including resource management, power sequencing and upgrade management.
